Duke’s Coach P in Greensboro

Coach Joanne P. McCallie (Coach P) of Duke was the featured speaker at the Greensboro Sports Council Luncheon on Tuesday, January 8th at noon in the Carlyle Club of the Greensboro Coliseum. The Blue Devils are currently ranked #12 by the Associated Press and opened the ACC season with an 84-72 win at Miami on Saturday. The Blue Devils will host Florida State on Friday before traveling to take on the fifth ranked Terps on Monday on ESPN2. The Blue Devills will play Kay Yow’s NC State Wolfpack on January 20th, travel to Georgia Tech on the 24th before hosting #3 (soon to be #2) Tennessee on the 28th.

Coach P is in her first year at Duke after a seven year stint at Michigan State. Currently, the Blue Devils are 10-3 and 1-0 in the conference.

A native of Brunswick, Maine, McCallie owned a career mark of 316-148 during her 15-year stint as a head coach at Maine and Michigan State. As a coach and player, she has led her teams to 13 conference titles, 16 NCAA Tournament appearances, five NCAA Sweet 16 appearances, four NCAA Elite Eight appearances, three NCAA Final Four appearances and three NCAA Championship game appearances.

Here’s her video address, with an introduction by Bernadette V. McGlade ACC Associate Commissioner for Women’s Basketball. It was one of the better speeches I’ve attended in some time.

Special thanks to the Demp Bradford and the Greensboro Sports Council.

  1. I heard him speaking and found some intresting facts about him. He is realy a god speakre as he is in the field

  2. The above was a SPAM COMMENT – from a UK Motorcoach company. I thought it was funny, so I deleted the referring website. This is how robot spammers work, they look for words to match up with their SPAM. In this case COACH P and MOTORCOACH – if Coach P was a man, I would have missed it.
