National Signing Day continued….

The North Carolina Tar Heels did not get EJ Abams-Ward out of Thomasville but they did sign Quinton Coples out of Kinston by way of Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Virginia. Coples played on the Kinston basketball team that beat Dudley in the regional finals last year at East Carolina. Coples is a Julius Peppers-type player and he can make a difference and he is a great athlete.

North Carolina also signed Robert Quinn a highly touted defensive end(just like Coples) out of South Carolina.

Justin Ward a big offensive lineman from Rockingham County(6’4/285) signed with Elon today. If you know of any big-time national names that have signed with N.C. State, Duke, or Wake Forest throw them into the mix.

Wake Forest signed 8 players from Florida and three from Georgia and only one from North Carolina and that was Kenny Okoro out of Dudley HS in Greensboro.

Duke signed two players from the Tar Heel state including Tony Foster WR from Burlington Williams. N.C. State inked 13 boys from their home state highlighted by RB/DB Tobias Palmer out of nearby Northwood HS in Pittsboro and Brandon Barnes RB from Bunn. The marque Pack signee is QB Mike Glennon from Westfield HS in Centreville, Virginia.

To go along with Justin Venable from Southeast Guilford, East Carolina added Anthony Garner DL out of Jordan Matthews HS in Siler City, Allen Crowder DL from Eastern Alamance HS in Mebane, and Mike Brown a big TE from Reidsville HS.

East Carolina football coach Skip Holtz on Justin Venable from the official Pirate athletic web site:
On Justin Venable:
“You can make a whole list of what Justin has accomplished in high school. He is a great athlete as well as a great baseball player. In camp, we were really impressed with him as a player and a person. He will have a great career here.”

Appalachian State signed 15 new players to their three-time National Championship squad with 8 North Carolina natives icluding Ed Gainey DB from Mount Tabor HS in Winston-Salem.
