Greensboro, N.C. – Guilford won its season-opening game for the first time since restoring the sport in 2003. The Quakers swept visiting Peace College Saturday, 11-3 and 8-0. Both games were halted after six innings.
The Quakers’ Kelly Guarnieri went 3-for-3 with 4 RBIs and ended the opener with a 3-run HR in the 6th. Teammate Charissa Duncan hit a 2-run double in the 5th. Guarnieri also singled and added an RBI double in the 2nd. Sophomore DeNina Eldridge fanned four in the win.
Samantha Golley fanned six in a complete-game 1-hitter in her college debut to give Guilford the sweep. Kelly Hale belted a two-run homer in the Quakers’ third inning. Kelly Guarnieri got her 5th RBI of the day with a sacrifice fly in the 4th.
Guilford hosts Greensboro Wednesday (2/20) at 2:00 p.m.
