After dropping its opener Friday to regional powerhouse Emory, the GC women’s softball team split two extra innings games today. The Pride defeated Maryville 8-5 in nine innings, then lost the rematch against Emory 4-3 in 11 innings.

In the opener, Pride pitchers Erin Jolly, Erica Brown and Stacie Patterson combined to allow 10 hits. Maryville rallied with three runs in the final inning to force extra play, but GC answered with three in the ninth to clinch the victory.

Jenee Johnson went 3-4 and scored three runs for GC. Britney Smith and Ryeleight Loftin each drove in two runs.

In the second game, Emory sophomore Caitlin Fitzgerald’s second hit of the game, a two-out single in the 11th inning, scored Carey Smith-Marchi and gave the Eagles a hard fought 4-3 victory. GC managed just two hits but scored three runs in the sixth inning to tie the game.
