Guilford College Athletics Update

Guilford’s women’s basketball team defeated visiting Emory & Henry College Tuesday night, 86-74. Lauren LeFevers led all scorers with a career-high 31 points and eight rebounds. Ben Strong captured the Old Dominion Athletic Conference’s Player of the Week Award for the fifth time this season Monday. The 6-11 center averaged over 32 points and eight rebounds per game in the 13th-ranked Quakers’ 3-0 week. He was also named Guilford’s Student-Athlete of the Week. Guilford’s women’s swimming team placed sixth among 11 teams at the Atlantic States Championships over the weekend. The Quakers placed fifth among eight ODAC teams at the meet, which also determined the league champion. Both finishes are the best in the team’s four-year history. Five school records were set at the meet, including two by Justine Merritt. Sara Stone set a school record with a third-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly, which is the best finish by a Guilford team or individual in the four years Guilford has competed in the event.
