Clint Moore earns starting spot for the Army Black Knights

from West Point up along the banks of the Hudson River in New York state comes word that:

Freshman Clint Moore out of Grimsley High School, has emerged as Army’s starting shortstop through steady defensive play in the fall. The slick-fielding middle infielder features excellent range, soft hands and a willingness to do the little things in order to be successful. Another two-way threat with the ability fill a prime spot in the Black Knights’ bullpen, Moore is a line-drive hitter capable of launching lasers to all fields. He plays the game with a great deal of passion and could fill a prominent relief role on the pitching mound.

“Clint brings a great deal of athleticism to our infield. He owns great presence and possesses an outstanding feel for the game,” coach Joe Sottolano states. “He slows the game down as well as anyone that I’ve had the privilege of coaching and that allows him to play with great confidence.”

A fiery competitor with a strong will to succeed, JP Polchinski, a junior from Ragsdale HS in Jamestown, will also start for the Black Knights of Army. The word on JP from the coach is that the North Carolina native elevated his game during the offseason in an effort to fend off challenges from several talented newcomers. The hard work yielded tangible results as Polchinski enters this spring listed atop the depth chart at the third base position.

On the left side of the starting infield for Army is Moore from Grimsley at short and Polchinski of Ragsdale at third.

The Black Knights of Army begin their 119th season of intercollegiate play on Friday, squaring off against highly regarded Louisiana-Lafayette, ranked 19th in Baseball America’s preseason poll, and Oral Roberts, which stands 40th in Collegiate Baseball’s preseason poll. Army will battle Louisiana-Lafayette at 11 a.m. (ET), before taking on Oral Roberts later in the day at 3 p.m. All of the action will take place down in San Antonio, Texas. This is all part of a round-robin tournament.

Kevan Moore from Greensboro expects to be in attendance for the first pitch on Friday morning and he will stay on board for all the games throughout the weekend. Army will play two more games after the Friday double-dip, one on Saturday and then one more on Sunday. Good luck to our local kids and good luck to the Army Black Knights.
