Greensboro Womens Basketball claims USA South Title

Greensboro, NC — The Greensboro College women’s basketball team claimed the USA South conference regular season title with an 85-63 win this afternoon over visiting Shenandoah. It is the third regular season title in the past four seasons for Pride Head Coach Jason Tuggle.

The Pride finished 15-3 in conference play, one game ahead of Methodist, which lost today to Christopher Newport. With the win, the team’s eighth straight, GC earned the number one seed in the USA South tournament which begins next Tuesday. The Pride will host NC Wesleyan at 7:00pm at Hanes Gymnasium.

Junior guard Dione Eccles led The Pride with 21 points on 6-10 shooting. She hit five 3-pointers and added five rebounds, four assists and two steals. Danielle Duncan and Raynisha Johnson played strong inside for GC, scoring 13 and eight points respectively.

14 players scored for GC, which jumped out to an early lead and cruised to victory. Nikki Wilborn and Rebekah McLeod each scored seven points, Cecile Nettles chipped in six, and Chelsea Thomas and Jamie Motsinger each scored five points.

Katherine Flint paced Shenandoah with 17 points. Whitney French added 11.

The Pride shot 39.4% from the field and outrebounded Shenandoah 55 to 38.
