Greensboro Mens Baseball Splits/Poholsky Gets Record

Atlanta, Ga. — The Pride split its 2 games Sunday at the Rawlings Tournament. GC went 2-1 in the event.

For the second straight day, Greensboro College defeated #25 York College of Pa., this time by score of 10-3 on Sunday, at the Rawlings Tournament.

In its second game, The Pride lost to host Emory, 5-2. Emory is ranked 5th in the nation and was the 2007 national runner-up. The loss ended a 4-game winning streak for GC.

Travis Brewer went 2-3 with a double and 3 RBI to lead Pride hitters. Jacob Tomb and Alex Guerra also collected 2 hits for GC.

Kent Gilliland started and got the win for The Pride. Torrey Poholksy threw the final 3 1/2 innings and earned the save. The save gave Phoholsky a GC record 9th career save. He surpassed Bob Stewart (1998-01) on the list.

Emory 5, GC 2
Emory (4-1) scored 3 times in the third inning of losing pitcher Jordan Dorsett (3-1) en route to the 5-2 win.

Dan Poindexter went 2-4 for The Pride. Anthony Corona and Jeff Gregory had run-scoring singles for Greensboro (9-4) in the 4th and 7th frames respectively for the visitors.

GC brought the tying run tot he plate in the 9th inning but Gregory flew out to right field to end the game.

Joe Roth went 3-3 for the Eagles and Matt Ryckman (1-0) earned his first win of the year.
