Spring sports report

Baseball yesterday on the High School scene, Ragsdale pulled out a close one with Mount Tabor with the Tigers taking the Spartans 4-3. Ryan Andrejco, DeSean Anderson, Nick McBide, and Kyle Brandenburg all had key hits for the Tigers.

Reid Holmes saw his Southwest Guilford Cowboys shut out Southern Guilford 3-0, with ace Blaine McCraw on the hill throwing strong with 9 strikeouts. Brett Underwood went 2-3 with a double and Jeff Gilley was 2-3 and drove in 2 of the 3 SWG runs.

The Grimsley Whirlies got past a perennially strong Kernersville Glenn club 6-4 on Wednesday. Jon Wilkinson got win for the Whirlies and returning players Cal Sutphin, Gabe Dimock, and Andrew Faircloth led the GHS hitting. Alan Ashkinazy pleased? You bet he is. Satisfied? No way man!

The biggest Lacrosse score was Page 22, West Forsyth 1. Grimsley AD Lewis Newman was there to watch his son Will Newman(being recruited by many colleges in football and lacrosse) score three goals and have two assists to help the Pirates secure the big victory over the Titans. Boo Hook (I have never heard that name, no big deal, just never heard of the name) had 7 goals to top the Pirate attack. Boo Hook is Andrew Hook.

*****Additional news on the Grimsley baseball game. We got this news yesterday afternoon and are more than happy to add it to the mix. George Cater is considered one of our areas top freshmen along with Josh Tobias at Southeast Guilford, who went 2-2 with 2RBI’s in his debut for the Falcons yesterday.

Here’s the news on George:Good evening Andy. Always enjoy your coverage. Was wondering why Carter from Grimsley was not mentioned among the hitting leaders in the opener against Glenn. Carter (a freshman) made his varsity debut starting at first and going 2for4 with a couple of rbis…….Good job George, and please, if anyone has additional info for us send it our way. durhamandy@live.com…..*****

  1. One of the most miserable nights for baseball that I have seen. The winds combined with the temps made for terrible playing conditions. Congrats to all those that endured it whatever outside sport you were participating in!
