Spring sports update

We learned yesterday that Boo Hook is Andrew Hook and today we see that our pick for one of the top 3-A teams in the state, the Southeast Guilford Falcons nailed the Rockingham County Cougars yesterday 10-0. Third baseman/catcher Jeff Medley was red-hot with 4 hits in 4 official plate appearances and Brian Webb, the son of Todd Webb went 2-3 and young freshman Josh Tobias, the son of Andrew Tobias, was 2-2. Medley and Webb had doubles and an RBI each and Tobias drove in 2 runs. Who was the pitching star? Sounds like the early honors go to Austin Moyer with 7k’s. Austin’s dad is Blair Moyer and I believe he will be at every game this year. Also watch out for Brian Webb’s siste Brianna, she’ll be there too when not playing softball.

I don’t know how the SEG JV’s made out, it was 5-2 Cougars when I left for the basketball game. The BIG ONE TODAY will be SEG at Southwest Guilford. Will we see Cam Cockman vs. Esterlin Paulino on the mound? I guess Paulino’s stil around isn’t he? This will be a matchup of 3-A powerhouses with the SEG players I already mentioned, plus Brett Underwood, Blaine McCraw, Jeff Gilley, and the other Cowboys. The JV’s play at SEG at 5pm and I will assume the Varsity goes off at the same time at SWG. SEG is like #3 in the Impact Baseball poll and SWG is #5 or #6.

Dudley shellacked WS Atkins yesterday afternoon 22-0 in five innings. It was 17-0 Panthers after one and Dudley AD Joe Godette said that was the biggest inning in Dudley baseball history. C/3B Doug Sigmon, Frankie Johnson, and Ronnie Burks lead the homerun derby. AJ Williams was the winning pitcher for the Panthers and Coach Farrar.

Ragsdale rolled over Southern Lee as Big Ben Fultz got in on the act for the Tigers with a triple and 2RBI’s and BBF was 3-4 at the plate. DeSean Anderson made it two solid days in a row for the Tigers(2-0) going 1-2 with two runs scored. West Forsyth-transfer Nick McBride was the winning pitcher for Ragsdale giving up just one hit.

Southern Guilford stole one from Northeast 10-7 with NEG making too many msitakes to get a win on Thursday. Don’t forget Northern Guilford opens up their season on Tuesday at home against Derrick Johnson’s Smith Golden Eagles. Smith lost to HP Andrews 15-9 yestersday.
