Greensboro Womens Basketball USAS Final: GC 83, CNU 80

Newport News, Va. — Danielle Duncan had 28 points to lead Greensboro College to an 83-80 win over Christopher Newport on Saturday in the USA South championship game.

Duncan was 9-16 from the field, grabbed 9 rebounds, made 10-10 free throws and scored 24 points in the second half and was an all tournament team pick.

Teammate Dione Eccles was picked the tournament MVP. In addition to her USA South record of 54 points on Friday, she had 19 points and 11 rebounds on Saturday.

“We’re playing good basketball, staying composed and making big plays when we need to,” said Pride Head Coach Jason Tuggle. “I’m proud of the way this team has stayed together and improved.”

CNU led by as many as 17 points in the first half and was ahead 38-30 at the break. The Pride shot 49-percent (17-35) in the final 20 minutes. GC made 22-28 free throws while CNU converted 8-15.

Nikki Wilborn had 17 points for The Pride, 12 of which were in the first half. Colandra Rollins led CNU with 22 points and 13 rebounds.

The Pride finds out Monday morning where and when it will play in the playoffs. It will be The Pride’s third NCAA appearance in 4 years. Saturday’s win was the 11th straight for The Pride.
