Guilford Womens College Softball Finals – Guilford 7, Gwynedd-Mercy 2; Guilford 5, Albright 4

Virginia Beach, Va. – Guilford’s softball team improved to 5-2-1 with two wins on the first day of the 2008 Beach Blast Tournament Friday. The Quakers downed Gwynedd-Mercy College, 7-2, in their first game, and took a 5-4 decision from Albright College in the second game.

In the first game, sophomore DeNina Eldridge matched her school record with 13 strikeouts in the Quakers’ win. She walked four and yielded five hits en route to her third win of the season. Teammate Amber Stapler went two-for-three with two RBIs to lead the offense. Ami Hutcherson also had two hits for Guilford.

In the second game, rookie Samantha Golley got the win on the mound thanks to a career-high eight strikeouts. She also had one of Guilford’s 10 hits in the game. Charissa Duncan went three-for-four with two triples. Kelly Hale also tripled and went two-for-four with an RBI.
