  1. Nettesheim is hitting the ball hard, just right at people. He will win games for Grimsley this year.

  2. Interesting game Monday night (5pm 3/3) with Northwest hosting North Davidson. Should be fun to watch some talented rosters from both schools. Looking forward to area baseball fans coming out to see some division 1 recruits.

  3. For SW, Bo Rein was the leading hitter…2 for 3, I think…with the lone rbi. SW hit the ball hard early on but couldn’t find a hole. The bottom of SE line up made a big difference putting the ball in play. I think Gilmore the # 9 hole hitter had 2 hits. The score was SW 1, SE 0 until the top of the 7th when SE loaded the bases with a walk and 2 infield hits. Esterlin Paulino was tough on the mound for SW. He struck out 12 in the first 6 innings and allowed 3 hits.

McCraw only pitches and since he pitched 7 on Wed., he wasn’t available for Friday’s game. Underwood was HBP, stole 2nd and advanced to 3rd on either a WP or PB…not sure which one, but was stranded at third. I don’t remember Gilley reaching base, but I could be wrong.

Paulino and Cockman pitched out of some tough situations.

It was a great game between two quality programs. I am sure both teams will find plenty of success as the season continues.

    SW is 1-1.

  4. I heard that Esterlin Paulino went the entire way for SWG vs. SEG and that he threw right at 117 pitches. I bet his arm was sore on Saturday and that he went through some ice.

Cockman got the win for SEG and Tobias got the save.

  5. So Blaine McCraw only pitches? Doesn’t he play anywhere else on his off days for SWG?

If I remember correctly that’s how Jusitn Smith was using the guys on the Guilford Patroits last summer. McCraw, Paulino, and Dimock would only pitch and not play in the field.

Do they do that in high school ball too? Can they afford to do that in HS ball? They must have plenty of talent to go around but you would think they would be in the field at first base or maybe in the outfield in right but maybe some of these guys are DH’ing.

  6. Ragsdale is 3-0 on the season. Beat Mt Tabor 4-3, Southern Lee 8-0 and Rocky Mount 12-2. Great start for such a young team. Ragsdale doesn’t have any seniors this year. Team is all juniors and sophomores.

Next game is Tuesday at home against SW Randolph. Conference play starts early.

  7. Paulino started the 7th and after a bb and 2 infield hits, Ethan Ogburn went in to get the final three outs. Paulino was hit in the leg in the first inning with a hard hit ball. He sucked it up and pitched great, but I think his leg hurt worse than his arm.

McCraw and Paulino only pitch. They are not position players and they are DH’d for when they pitch. This has been true since middle school. I am sure every school is different and each athlete is different, but it works well for these 2 young men. SW in the present and in the past has had pitchers that hit and play positions, but just not these two.
