Spring sports report:NEG at SG, We were there…..

We took in some high school baseball on a nice warm Monday evening and our stop on the annual spring tour was Southern Guilford High School out off of Drake Road. The SG Storm was hosting the Northeast Guilford Rams and it was a very tight ball game through the first five innings as the SG starter Jake Ozment had it going on pretty good against the NEG hitters.

The game stayed at 2-2 until the sixth inning when NEG got rolling and the Rams went on to win the game 7-2. Ozment gave up some key hits and he was moved to shortstop and then Southern proceeded to go through two more pitchers and the Storm never crossed home plate again. The final of 7-2 NEG, makes the Rams (1-2) on the year and SG is the same for 2008 at (1-2).

Taylor Atkins, the brother of Chicago Cubs AA pitcher and NEG grad Mitch Atkins, went 3-4 with 2RBI’s and 2 runs scored for NEG. Zach Moore, who is also a soccer player and the football kikcer for NEG, picked up the win in relief, striking out 7 SG Storm batters. Ethan Payne went 2-4 for NEG.

We will have pictures up from this game later today……

Also on Monday in a game we had some of our readers attending, Northwest Guilford lost a tough one to North Davidson 4-3. NWG is now (1-1) and faced a very tough Black Knight squad. ND went deep into the 4-A playoffs last season. If anyone had any stats or info on the NWG players please send it along. NWG is back in action again on Friday and Saturday.

If anyone knows anything about the death of a young man Adam Kincaid, age 23, who I believe attended NWG and played basketball and other sports for the Vikings, please send it our way. I saw the notice but no details in Sunday’s paper(N&R). We are concerned and interested in what happened to the young Mr. Kincaid.

Also on Monday, I’m sure a few of our readers were at the Page-HP Andrews game and saw the Pirates rack up their first win of the year. Page(1-0) topped HPA 13-3 with Zac Kornblun striking out 12 Red Raider batters and only allowing one hit. The Pirates’ Felix Delgado(any relation to Carlos Delgado?) had 3 hits/3RBI’s/2 runs scored/2 stolen bases, while Kyle Taylor was 2-2 with 2 doubles and 2RBI’s. HPA is now (1-1).

Greensboro Day School knocked off Westchester Christian 7-2 behind the pitching and hitting of Tim Vanthaer and the hitting of Nathan Tilley(any relation to Don Tilley?)

On tap today is the “First-Ever” game for Coach Johnny Smith and Northern Guilford as they host the Smith Golden Eagles(0-1) out on Spencer Dixon Road. We also have:
Southeast Guilford(2-0) at Eastern Randolph
SW Randolph at Ragsdale(3-0)
Southwest Guilford(1-1) at Ledford(Ledford has Tyler Hanover the transfer from East Forsyth and Kevin Conley the sports guy at WGHP FOX8, his kids play at Ledford)

*****The N&R had Page-HPA and NEG-SG, but both of those were played yesterday and wouldn’t think they would hook up again today.*****

  1. Tyler Hanover transferred from E. Forsyth to N. Davidson. He plays 2b for North and will be attending LSU. N. Davidson also has Levi Michael a 2009 graduate at SS who has verbally committed to UNC.

  2. Good call by the Sportsfan. I was told in some discussions that Hanover had gone to Ledford, but maybe it goes like this.

Garrison Lassiter from Ledford to West Forsyth, Nick McBride from West Forsyth to Ragsdale, and then Tyler Hanover from East Forsyth to North Davidson.

I didn’t see Hanover’s name in the NWG-ND story from yesterday but I did see Levi Michael listed in the write-up.

I talked to someone earlier today and they told me that Kevin Connely’s kids did transfer from Southwest Guiford to Ledford right after SWG Middle School.

Sadly, I heard that the Kincaid kid choked to death after becoming sick at a friend’s house this past weekend. They said there were stomach problems and that he choked to death on his own blood and that is so tragic for a kid that was just 23 years old and we also heard that Adam had played in the Gaters basketball organization. Our thoughts go out to his family and to the NWG Viking community.

I also caught word that our teams up here, SEG, Ragsdale, and SWG may get a shake from Western Alamance and Southern Alamance. Word is that in some 3-A polls, WA and SA are ranked in the top five in the state. I wonder if Impact Baseball has them that high?

  3. Adam’s dad (Frank) has coached several NC Gaters teams over the years, and has positively influenced scores of kids. Great family! Please join with me in praying for the Kincaids

  4. No Northern Guilford-Smith game today. NG-Smith will be at NG on Thursday at 6PM….
NG at Western Alamance Wednesday at 7:30pm.

    Excellent call Carter…..AD
