“Our feet hurt” says WAKE FOREST, So take off those Dancing Shoes:The ACC today

It looks like the Wake Forest Demon Deacons will not need those Dancing Shoes after all this season. The Deacs must be suffering from some sore feet since thoes shoes don’t fit for the Big Dance and last night WFU got slammed in a Bar Room Blitz at Blatzburg.

Tech head coach Seth Greenberg couldn’t have written a better script for Senior Night, as Deron Washington played his best game of the season and seldom-used Marcus Travis made a contribution as well in the Hokies’ easy 80-58 steamrolling of Wake Forest in an ACC game played Tuesday night at Cassell Coliseum.

Looking fresh after a week off, Tech jumped out to a 17-3 lead and never looked back, bolting out to a 47-26 halftime lead. The Hokies played a sensational first half of basketball – arguably its best half this season. They shot 50 percent from the floor, while holding Wake to just 27.6 percent, and Tech dished out 15 assists on 19 baskets compared to just two turnovers.

The second half was an extension of the first, as the Hokies opened the final 20 minutes with a 15-6 run. Malcolm Delaney’s basket with 14:36 remaining gave the Hokies a 62-32 and Wake did not come closer than 18 points the remainder of the game.

A.D. Vassallo added 20 points for the Hokies, while Jeff Allen contributed 13. Tech shot 45.3 percent from the floor and held Wake to just 34 percent. The Hokies only turned the ball over 10 times on the evening.

Wake Forest lost for the fourth straight time, falling to 16-12 overall, 6-9 in the ACC. The Demon Deacons got a huge game from freshman guard Jeff Teague, who scored a game-high 25 points.

Tyler Hansbrough had 20 points and Ty Lawson added 10 in his first home game in a month to help No. 1 North Carolina beat Florida State 90-77 on Tuesday night, keeping them in position to play for the Atlantic Coast Conference regular-season title this weekend at No. 6 Duke.

Marcus Ginyard added 13 points for North Carolina (28-2, 13-2), which led by 12 at halftime and maintained a comfortable margin through most of the second half for its seventh straight victory. The Tar Heels have won eight straight meetings and 19 of 22 in the series, and now can turn their attention to traveling to Cameron Indoor Stadium to face the Blue Devils on Saturday.

North Carolina, which shot 70 percent in the second half, spent 11 weeks atop the national rankings before losing 82-80 to Maryland here in January. The Tar Heels returned to No. 1 on Monday following Tennessee’s loss at Vanderbilt last week.

Jason Rich had 27 points for the Seminoles (17-13, 6-9), who trailed by six points midway through the second half.

Lawson’s health was a key concern for the second straight meeting of these teams. In the first matchup last month, Lawson sprained his left ankle in the early minutes of an 84-73 overtime win and missed the next six games. He returned to the lineup over the weekend, scoring four points in 21 minutes at Boston College.
*****William Graves out of Dudley HS had 6 points in 11 minutes for the Tar Heels.*****

  1. This may end up being good news, for local hoop fans. I think Wake may end up in the NIT. The last time they were in the NIT, they played two games locally – Against New Mexico in Winston, and against California in the Greensboro Coliseum.
