More on the ACC women’s basketball tournament from the Greensboro Coliseum

GREENSBORO, N.C. – One week meant all the difference in the world for ninth-seeded Clemson.

A mere seven days after suffering a 32-point homecourt loss to NC State, the Tigers turned the tables on the eighth-seeded Wolfpack in Thursday’s Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tournament first-round game.

D’Lesha Lloyd’s 15-footer gave Clemson the lead for good with 2:35 remaining in overtime, and eight straight free throws in the final 1:15 – six by sophomore guard Morganne Campbell – sealed the Tigers’ 65-60 win.

“We played a lot harder and with a lot more intensity,” said Clemson coach Cristy McKinney, who scored a win over her alma mater and guided the Tigers to their first ACC Tournament win since 2003. “We learned a lot from that last game. We learned what they were good at, and we did a better job of taking some of those things away.”

The victory sends the Tigers (12-18) into Friday’s 3 p.m. quarterfinal game opposite top-seeded North Carolina (27-2).
