You’re in the Army now…..

LYNCHBURG, Va. – A difficult early season slate of games gets no easier for the Army baseball team this weekend as the Black Knights head south for a three game weekend series against highly regarded Liberty. The teams were originally scheduled to play single contests on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, but Friday’s action has been postponed due to heavy rain forecast in the Lynchburg area. The game will now be played as part of a doubleheader (two nine-inning games) on Saturday.

Army, which sports a 2-5 record through its first seven showings this spring, has already battled the likes of nationally ranked Louisiana-Lafayette, Oral Roberts, Texas-San Antonio, Texas Tech and Maryland-Baltimore. An equally stern challenge awaits the Black Knights this weekend in Lynchburg, Va., where host Liberty boasts an impressive 6-3 record. Counted amongst the Flames’ early season wins are victories over Notre Dame and Iowa.

Freshman first baseman Doug Bream has started quickly for Liberty, posting a .500 batting average with three doubles and nine runs batted in through nine contests. Bream is the cousin of former Liberty first baseman and Atlanta Braves’ legend Sid Bream.(We all remember when Sid slid and scored on the hit by Francisco Cabrerra giving the Braves one of their biggest wins in team history.)

SS Clint Moore out of Grimsley HS is hitting .320 with 4RBI’s and 3B JP Polchinski from Ragsdale is at .250 with a HR and 2RBI’s for the Army Black Knights.
