Clemson and Virginia close strong

Good news for Rob Shelton and the Clemson Tiger fans, bad news for the ChromeDome Nation and Seth Greenberg. Great news for Virginia and Cavalier Country, as the Wahoos finish stong at home with the win over Maryland.

Doug Cockman has all the news on the upcoming Men’s ACC Tournament and Doug has a recap on the womens’s final played Sunday afternoon at the Greensboro Coliseum.

Here’s the word on Sunday’s action for the men at theacc.com and again good job by the Clemson Tigers to claim that third seed for the tournament in Charlotte this week…..

Demontez Stitt headed to the free throw line for two shots with his team trailing by one and 3.8 seconds to go.

Clemson fans held their breath. At least half of the Tigers’ eight losses can be tied to poor foul shooting, for the worst free-throw shooting team in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

But the freshman calmly sank both, giving No. 24 Clemson a 70-69 victory over Virginia Tech on Sunday, perhaps the most improbable ending in one of the school’s best seasons in years.

The Tigers (22-8, 10-6) locked up third place in the ACC, their best finish since winning the regular-season title in 1990. They will likely get a bid to the NCAA tournament for the first time in a decade.

Sean Singletary scored 27 points in what was likely his final home game and Virginia beat Maryland 91-76 Sunday night, damaging the Terrapins’ already withering hopes of gaining an at-large berth in the NCAA tournament.

Singletary, honored with three other seniors beforehand, had his jersey retired and unveiled hanging from the ceiling. He finished in style, also added six rebounds and eight assists to help the postseason hopes of the Cavaliers (15-14, 5-11 Atlantic Coast Conference), and added his 2,000th career point on a layup with 2:28 remaining.

It gave Virginia an 82-73 lead, stopped a 5-point run by Maryland and left the Terrapins (18-13, 8-8) with another damaging loss, its fourth in the past five games.

  1. Seth is still the best coach in the league. Fourth in the league with three freshman starters. If not for the stupid ACC refs, the Hokies would be the 3rd seed.
