Guilford College Women’s Lacrosse Final – Va. Wesleyan 15, Guilford 12

Greensboro, N.C. – Aimee Sraver and Jillian Boyd both scored four goals and an assist to lead visiting Virginia Wesleyan College to a 15-12 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win over Guilford College Saturday. The loss ends Guilford’s four-game winning streak.

Guilford (4-4, 1-1 ODAC) held an 8-6 lead with 3:07 left in the first half, before Boyd scored twice around a Bethany Adomanis tally to give the Marlins (7-3, 4-0 ODAC) a 9-8 halftime lead. Sraver opened the second-half scoring for a two-goal Marlins’ edge.

After an Ellie Merrit goal made it a 10-9 Virginia Wesleyan lead, Boyd and Kathryn Simmons dent the twine less than a minute apart and triggered a 5-1 Marlins’ burst that opened an insurmountable 15-10 lead with 6:48 remaining.

Shelly Nogueira and Carrie Ernst both converted free-position shots in the final 2:02, but Guilford could draw no closer.

Nogueira, Ernst and Mary Hutchins all scored three goals to lead Guilford.

Ashley Sippel made seven of her game-high 11 saves in the second half for Virginia Wesleyan, which visits Greensboro College Sunday.

The Quakers host the University of the South in a nonconference match Sunday (3/30) at noon.
