Samantha Golley struck out a career-high nine batters as the Quakers won the opener, 9-1, in five innings. Women’s Lacrosse – Guilford’s Kelly Gonzalez received one of 26 NCAA Ethnic Minority Enhancement Postgraduate Scholarship Awards recently. The senior defender is a three-year starter and team captain. She won Guilford’s English Athletic Leadership Award in February of this year and will pursue a career in sports medicine after Guilford. Golf – Guilford placed seventh among 32 teams at the Marine Federal Credit Union Intercollegiate Sunday in Camp Lejeune, N.C. The Quakers shot a three-day 895 and placed four among Division III teams, trailing tourney champion Methodist University, Oglethorpe University and Ohio Wesleyan College. The Quakers’ Burton Wood shot 219 over the three rounds and placed ninth among 162 contestants. Football – Guilford awarded superlatives to six students from the 2007 season at the team’s annual banquet in February. Joe Joyner was named the team’s Most Valuable Player, Mike Six won the Defensive MVP and Hunter Chappell was named the Special Teams MVP. Senior offensive lineman Brad Davis took home the Charlie Griffin Award for loyalty and dedication to the program.
