Greensboro Baseball: Greensboro 4, Averett 0

Greensboro, N.C. — Jordan Dorsett pitched a 3-hit complete game shutout and freshman Lyle Donaldson had 2 RBI singles as Greensboro College defeated Averett, 4-0, at War Memorial Stadium on Monday night.

The Pride improved to 21-12 and 5-4 in USA South play. Averett is now 14-19, and 2-9.

GC scored in the first inning. Donaldson (2-4) singled home Kyle Bolick who had reached on a walk to lead off the game. That was all the support Dorsett needed.

The junior southpaw threw a perfect game for 5 innings. However, Cougar Justin Brown led off the 6th inning with a bloop single down the right field line that landed between 3 Pride players. AU had 2 successful sacrifice bunts to move Brown to third. Yet Dorsett struck out Adam Higgins to end the threat.

Dorsett, who struggled in earlier games with control, did not on Monday. He struck out 7 batters and walked none. The 3 singles were the only AU batters who reached base for the visitors.

AU got a single by Don Wilder in the 7th and an infield hit by Adam Higgins in the 9th. Cougar starter Ahmed Shelton gave up all 4 runs (3 earned) and 9 GC hits.

The Pride’s Dan Poindexter went 3-4 and had a double, the game’s only extra base hit. Donaldson had his second RBI single of the game when GC added 3 insuance runs in the bottom of th 9th inning.

The contest was The Pride’s last scheduled home game of the season.
