Hickman is the stickman for the Hoppers in win over Hickory…

Tom Hickman had two big homers for the Greensboro Grasshoppers in their 5-4 victory over Hickory on Wednesday. I guess you could say that Hickman took it to Hickory and that Hickman is “The Stickman”. The Hoppers go to (5-2) with the win and here’s the full run down from Justin Stottlemyre the media assistant for the Greensboro Grasshoppers.

Hickman’s Two Homers Blast Hoppers Past Hickory

Greensboro, N.C. – After going five games without a home run, the Greensboro Grasshoppers have hit three in their last two games, including two from tonight’s hero Tom Hickman.

Hickman put the Hoppers up 1-0 in the second inning with a solo home run and hit a three-run homer in the eighth to lead Greensboro past the Hickory Crawdads, 5-4.

The Grasshoppers fell behind 3-1 in the third inning when Hickory plated three of its four runs, but was able to inch their way back into the game with one run in the seventh and Hickman’s three-run blast in the eighth.

With two men on base and one out, Hickman sent a deep, high-fly ball down the right field line that just stayed fair to give Greensboro their fourth come-from-behind win of the season.

Cristhian Martinez got the start for Greensboro and pitched six solid, only allowing three runs to the Crawdads, all of which came in the fourth inning. Martinez tossed five shutout innings and gave up six hits while striking out two batters. He was relieved by Corey Madden (1-0) who threw two innings to pick up the win, giving up one run and striking out four batters.

Garrett Parcell came in to close the game for Greenboro and picked up his second save of the season after striking out three of the four batters he faced.

The win improved Greensboro’s record to 5-2 and moved the Hoppers into sole possession of first place in the South Atlantic League’s Northern Division as Lake County (4-2), Hagerstown (3-2) and Hickory (4-3) all lost their respective games on Wednesday.

Greensboro and Hickory will wrap up their current four-game series Thursday with the series finale set to begin at 7 p.m.
