Greensboro College Tennis, Lacrosse Results

Burlington, N.C. — Tournament most valuable player Kaitlin Quigley scored 5 goals and dished one assist as Christopher Newport defeated Greensboro College, 19-4, in the USA South championship game at Springwood Park on Saturday.

The Captains, who earned their thrid straight championship and tirp to the NCAA tournament, improved to 12-5. The Pride ends its season at 5-12.

CNU jumped out to an early 3-0 lead before GC’s Ashley Nolen scored off an assist by Christie Hebert. Nolen, a freshman and an all tournament selection, had 2 goals in the game. Hebert recorded the final tally of the first half with 3 seconds on the clock that put the score at 11-3 at the break.

The Captains outscored GC 8-1 in the final 30 minutes. For the game, CNU won in draws (15-8), ground balls (13-12), shots (39-13).

Meghan Harkey added 4 goals for the Catpains. Freshman Layne Woodard had 2 assists for GC.

Rachel Gilman had 7 saves for CNU. For The Pride, Lauren Maynard stopped 10 shots.

Men’s Lacrosse: GC 10, St. Vincent 6
Latrobe, PA — Jose Rodriguez had 4 goals and Neal McKinney added 3 goals and an assist as Greensboro College (4-9) won at St. Vincent on Saturday.

The Pride led the entire match and held a 4-2 lead at halftime. The Pride had its biggest lead with 12:30 in regulation as Brandon Savage scored off an assist from Brian Mercer to make the score 9-3.

St. Vincent scored the next 3 goals before Rodriguez tallied the game’s final goal–a man-up score from Brian Bishop–with 1:26 on the clock. Bishop and Mercer each collected 2 helpers in the game.

Mike Forderaro made 9 saves in goal for GC. Nick Patrone won 9-12 face-offs. St. Vincent had 37 shots to 29 for the visitors and led in round balls 28-25.

Jason Powell and Jarrid Johnson both scored twice for St. Vincent (3-7). Jon McMahon had 10 saves for the home club.
