Spring Sports Report

I don’t have any baseball updates or scores for today but I did run down some track and field news that I thought was impressive from last weekend’s high school meet over at NC A&T. I ran into the Dudley Panthers’ football coach Steven Davis at the Food Lion down on Randleman Road on Saturday evening and he was telling me that he had been to the meet that afternoon.

William Graves from Southern Guilford came on strong winning the 100, 200, and 400 meters events and William’s times were 11.06 for the 100, 22.60 for the 200, and 49.04 for the 400. That is a pretty busy day for the young man William Graves who was all-conference in football, finished 2nd in the state in wrestling in the 152 pound weight class and now finds time to burn up the track in the spring. I haven’t heard yet where William is heading to for college, but somebody is going to get a good one who can definitely do more than one sport.

Seth Crawford of Northwest Guilford was double-winner, taking the 1600(mile) and the 3200(two mile) meter races. Jared Stalling, also from NWG, won the shot put and discus events.

In baseball coming up this afternoon it will be a full day of action with:

East Forsyth(15-3/7-0) at Grimsley(13-5/5-2) Good possibility you’ll see Ryan Dull(9-0) for EF vs. George Carter from Grimsley on the mound. Major matchup here…..
Southwest Randolph at Southeast Guilford(15-2/9-0)
Dudley(12-4) at Northern Guilford… Earlier reports had Dudley at Western Alamance but we’ll go with this one…
Ragsdale(15-5) at Randleman
Southwest Guilford(12-7/5-2) at High Point Andrews
Western Guilford at Rockingham County
Northeast Guilford at Morehead
High Point Central at Page
McMichael at Eastern Guilford(9-8)
Smith at Northwest Guilford(12-6/5-2)

  1. Kristen Rush of Greensboro Day also put down a 2:17.14 in the womens 800m, its currently the fastest high school girls time in the State.

  2. Good call Bengal. I was asking Coach Freddy Johnson about her back in the winter when she was playing girls basketball for the Bengals and Coach Shoemaker and Coach Johnson said she could run or fly, to put in it in track and field terms.

Do you know, is she Steven Rush’s sister or cousin and is she a junior or a senior?

Thanks for the update and keep us aware, she is one of the best around and I’m sure the coach at A&T would love to have her on his track team…….I am speaking of the Aggie coach, they call him,”The Spaceman”.

  3. Grimsley beat East Forsyth 9-0 in dominating fashion. George Carter pitched 6 innings of one hit ball with Pat Oeschli pitching the 7th. Cal Sutphin, Carter, Andrew Justice all had multiple hits and rbi’s to lead Grimsley’s offense. Watch out for the Whirlies

  4. Hey Andy,

Kristen is a Junior and she is Steven Rush’s cousin. I’m sure she would love to run at A&T…..maybe roy will make her an offer. 🙂
