Spring Sports Report

Early morning and we will have more for you later today….Hoppers in action at 10:45am.

From Tuesday in HS baseball:

Grimsley 9-0 over East Forsyth with George Carter getting the win and Ryan Dull taking the loss and the Whirlies are now (14-5/6-2) and EF stands at (16-4/7-1).

Southeast Guilford topped SW Randolph 8-6 to move to (16-2/11-0) and Austin Moyer picks up the win he’s (6-0) and he struck out 11 Cougar batters.

Southwest Guilford took two from High Point Andrews 10-0 and 7-0 and Esterlin Paulino pitched a perfect game in game two but the paper said he was the winning pitcher in both games? SWG now (14-7/7-2).

Northwest Guilford slammed Smith 17-0 and now the Vikings are (13-6/6-2) by most accounts and I believe they still have a game with East Forsyth remaining.

Southern Guilford at Southeast Guilford today at 6pm and word is SEG may be resting some players with the conference title in hand and Ragsdale on Thursday and we will see who pitches these last two regular season games. Tiger Miller has moved up from the JV team to finish out the season as full-time varsity. He ran for Medley and Moyer in Tuesday’s game with SWR.

More later today, we hope, and check the comment boxes we have more stats on the games in some of our prervious boxes where fans weighed in on yesterday’s games…..

*****I received these stats and notes from the Grimsley camp:

Grimsley beat East Forsyth 9-0 in dominating fashion. George Carter pitched 6 innings of one hit ball with Pat Oeschli pitching the 7th. Cal Sutphin, Carter, Andrew Justice all had multiple hits and rbi’s to lead Grimsley’s offense. Watch out for the Whirlies.*****

From Andy:
I heard that Grimsley had the bases loaded in the bottom of the first with nobody gone with a double by Nettesheim, Sutphin squared to bunt and got hit by the pitch, and then Gabe Dimock got on board and Geroge Carter came up and drove all three of them in to give the Whirlies the early 3-0 and they never looked back. That was the call as we received it at the radio station.

Ray or anybody out there have the start time on that Dudley game today?

  1. Northwest hosts Ledford tonight at 7 pm and then plays at East Forsyth on Friday night at 7 pm. The Northwest senior baseball players will be honored tonight on the field probably starting at 6:30pm before the Ledford game. We hope to see the Northwest community and any others that want to watch a good game come out and show their support for these five fine young men. Four of the five will be studying engineering at NCSU in the fall. the other young man will be going to ASU. (Not sure if he has declared his major yet.) May the road rise up to meet you and the wind be forever at your back and the sun shine upon your face. Geoff, Seth, Trent, Eric, and Tommy, always strive to do your best.

  2. The Northwest community would like to extend a note to all of the senior baseball players in the Guilford County area that play for all of the high shcols. We have known so many of you from the time you were T-ballers or Coach’s Pitch kids. Please take this quote with you from the late and great Vince Lombardi:
” The quality of a person’s life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen field of endeavor.”
We have enjoyed watching so many of you boys of summer play over the years. Do your community of Guilford county proud, and strive for excellence as you close one chapter in your lives and open another.
May each of you be blessed.

  3. Paulino did get the win in both games. He pitched the first four innings of the first game and with a good lead, he was pulled and Hudgens finished the game strong. Paulino started the second game and was able to throw a perfect game. I think he had 15 strikeouts in the 2nd game. Not too often that a pitcher throws a perfect game and gets 2 wins all in the same day. Congratulations Esterlin.

  4. Thanks for all of the input. The Esterlin Paulino deal is amazing, I don’t think I have ever heard of that before.

Big one tonight for NWG vs. Ledford….

Dudley vs. Western Alamance should be an important game in deciding the standings in the Triad 3-A conference….
NEG, WG, Dudley, WA, and Rockingham County are all in the hunt from what I have been hearing…..
