Guilford College Men’s Lacrosse Final – Greensboro 9, Guilford 5

Greensboro, N.C. – Brian Butterworth scored a game-high three goals in visiting Greensboro College’s 9-5 nonconference lacrosse win over Guilford College Wednesday night. The Pride improves to 5-9 with its fourth win in six games. The Quakers fall to 2-11 with their eighth straight loss.

Butterworth tallied twice during the decisive second quarter when Greensboro outscored Guilford, 5-1. The Quakers took a 2-1 lead after the first quarter as Dan Orr and Joe Dauksis sandwiched goals around Butterworth’s first tally. Nick Patrone closed out the second-quarter scoring with an unassisted goal with four seconds remaining that gave the Pride a 6-3 halftime lead.

Neal McKinney netted the lone third-quarter goal and Patrone opened the fourth quarter with is second goal of the game, capping a 5-0 Pride run. Six students were ejected for fighting midway through the third quarter, which resulted in a 4-3 Greensboro advantage for three minutes. The Pride failed to score with the extra man as Guilford’s Andrew Vigne made three of his 14 saves during the man-down situation.

Guilford’s Todd Bochenek and Colin Davis scored less than five minute apart to pull the hosts to within 8-5 with 8:39 left in regulation, but McKinney’s tally from Chris Duffy iced the win with 2:45 left.

Butterworth added a game-high six ground balls to his three goals. McKinney and Patrone finished with two goals apiece. Greensboro’s Jordan Drumheller scored one goal and a game-high two assists. Mike Foderaro made 10 saves for Greensboro, four in the fourth quarter.

Guilford concludes the regular season Saturday (4/26) night at 6:00 p.m. versus Old Dominion Athletic Conference-rival Washington and Lee University in the Armfield Athletic Center. Greensboro plays Wesley College Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in Charlottesville, Va.
