GUILFORD CROSS COUNTRY ADDS STANDOUT RUNNER TO 2008 ROSTER

Greensboro, N.C. — Guilford College head cross country coach Jamie LaFollette announced the intention of Palmer Hicks (Winder, Ga.) to join the Quakers’ cross country team Thursday. Hicks has made his deposit to the college and will enroll for classes beginning in August.

Hicks lettered three seasons on the cross country team at Barrow High School for coach Sam Stovall. He helped his team qualify for the 2005 state championship meet. Hicks finished 10th in the 2007 8-AAAA region and earned the Emil Jones Memorial Award. Hicks also lettered three years in track, earning the Carpenter Award and posting two “Elite Performances” for Georgia High School boys. Hicks considered Catawba College, Mars Hill College and Young Harris College before choosing Guilford.

The Quakers concluded the 2007 season with an 18th-place finish in the NCAA Division III Regionals at Christopher Newport University. The squad also finished sixth out of 10 teams in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) championships. After losing three seniors to graduation, Guilford expects nine letter winners back next season.
