from Coach Danny Shutt and the Triad Power girls softball team:

Triad Power 12u Wins Birth to WFC World Series

The Triad Power 12u (Blue) competed in a World Fast-pitch Connection World Series Qualifier last weekend in Siler City. The two day tournament hosted six teams from the triad area. The tournament winner received an automatic bid to the WFC World Series that will be held in Myrtle Beach, SC. in August.

The Power’s first game was against a team called Hedz Up out of Chatham County. Haleigh Epperson got her first start at pitcher. She pitched a no hitter and did not allow any runs, one walk cost her perfect game. Power wins this one 13-0. The next game we faced the Boomerangs from Durham. Morgan Coleman started and pitched a complete game. Great defense in the outfield by Ashton Dobbins and good hitting by Samantha Stilling and Ashleigh Carter secured a 12-1 victory for the Power.

The third game of the day matched us against the Patrick County Prowlers from Va. Kara Shutt pitching her first complete game got the win 12-0. The last game paired us with the GBC Storm (95) from Summerfield. The winner of this game goes to the championship on Sunday. The Power took an early 2-0 lead. GBC came back and made it 5-2. In the last inning the Power finally figured out the GBC pitcher. Key hits by Hayley Rumley, Brianna Webb and Molly Pustay led to a nine run inning. Starting pitcher Bergan Goddard allowed just two hits and got the 11-5 win.

On Sunday the rain fell and cancelled the championship game. The tournament winner had to be determined by best record. Our 4-0 record earned us the tournament championship and a WFC World Series Birth.

*****Congrats to Coach Shutt and assistant Coach Todd Webb and to the team on making it to the Series…..*****
