Spring Sports Report:These Conference Tournaments are keeping us busy…

Southwest Guilford beat Asheboro last night so in the Mid-Piedmont 3-A baseball tournament at Eastern Randolph tonight it will be:

Ragsdale vs. Randleman at 5pm and then Southeast Guilford vs. Southwest Randolph at 7:30pm…I was able to track this info from WKXR radio 1260 out of Asheboro. The station is set to carry both of these games tonight with air time at 4:45pm. WKXR is focusing on Randleman and SWR.

Southwest Guilford topped WS Parkland 5-4 with Esterlin Paulino getting the win. Blaine McCraw got the start for the Cowboys but he left in the fifth inning and Paulino took over and collected the win for his SWG Cowboys. SWG will next play WS Reagan, an upset winner over Kernersville Glenn 5-3 with the Reagan Raiders going up early and the Glenn took the 3-2 lead and then Reagan came back to win it 5-3.

Southwest Guilford will play Reagan in the title game on Friday at 7pm, at Southwest Guilford. SWG is now (15-9) and Reagan stands at (14-8). Glenn fell to (19-5) and WS Parkland(14-8) after their losses. One of the Parkland fans got very upset with the umpire’s calls and after the Parkland-SWG game the umpire called for a High Point City police officer to step in, and the umpire told the HPPD officer that the fan just called him(the umpire) **** and that the Parkland fan was threatening the Umpire.

Esterlin Paulino was tough late for SWG and Nick Shields, Will Kellam, and Brett Underwood all hit the ball in the right places for SWG. We were reporting here on the site yesterday that it was SWG-Glenn last night at SWG but that’s what the receptionists at both school offices(Glenn and SWG) were saying. They both played but at different times, SWG at 5 and Glenn at 7:30pm. Friday night at 7pm it will be Southwest Guilford vs. WS Reagan for the Piedmont Triad 3-A tournament title. Will Paulino get the call to start again for the Cowboys?

In another game that was played in the area on Wednesday, it was North Davidson 3-1 over West Forsyth in game played at ND. I was able to pick up info on a few of these games from the Winston-Salem Journal on-line.

The Triad 3-A conference tournament gets under way today and at least the finals will be played in Stoner-White Stadium at Jaycee Park. Dudley defeated Western Alamance for the second time in the last week yesterday, 7-5, behind the pitching of Tevin Neal who is now (7-0). Dudley stands at (16-5). In the win over WA, Ray Crawford was 4-4 with 2RBI’s, Eric Kimber went 2-4 with a couple of runs scored and Doug Sigmon was 2-3 with 2RBI’s. Neal struck out 6 WA Warrior batters in 7 innings of work.

I saw a report over at ThisBoardRocks.com and it said that in the Triad 3-A, that Western Guilford and Rockingham County were tied for #1, that Western Alamance was #3, and Dudley was #4. How can Dudley be as low as #4 when they just beat Western Alamance twice in the last week? Are those kind of standings up-to-date and correct, and does the tournament start at the schools and move to Stoner-White or does the entire tourney go off at Jaycee Park?

Also from Wednesday it was Eastern Guilford over WS Atkins in the North State 2-A tourney and the Wildcats put together a big-time team effort to top the Camels 14-0. EG moves on in the tournament and so does Southern Guilford with the Strom topping Reidsville 10-0. Jake Ozment led the SG Storm with a home run and 2RBI’s and Jake was the winning pitcher. Cameron Allred went 3-4 with an RBI for the SG Storm.

The Metro 4-A tournament gets rolling today with Smith at Northwest Guilford and Page vs. High Point Central. The Smith-NWG winner will move to meet Grimsley on Friday at 7pm on the Whirlies’ home field off of Westover Terrace and the HPC-Page winner will face #1 seed East Forsyth at EF.

I heard the Grimsley players on the Wyleed Coyote Show last night on 102JAMZ and it was the Holywood Hotel. Coach Tony Sutphin was there with the team and we heard Matt Nettesheim, Jon Wilkinson, George Carter, Pat Oeschli, Andrew Faircloth and a few other Whirlies on the air with Wyleed Coyote.

There’s a lot of High School baseball tournament action going on, get out and catch a game. In another footnote or two, they play the Mid-Piedmont and Piedmont Triad 3-A finals on Friday night and the Metro 4-A final is set for Monday and the Triad 3-A final is up in the air, we are looking for some info on that one.

  1. Dudley eliminated Western Alamance from the state playoffs unless Western Alamance
wins the Conference Tournament. Those stats were wrong Dudley is 3rd With a conf rec of
10-4 Western Alamance lost at least 6-7 conf games. That is a bad site
