NWG will play at 6, Hoppers have two with LCC…

from John Hughes the Athletic Director at Northwest Guilford High School:

Tonight’s state baseball playoff game with Mt. Tabor will start at 6pm, not 7pm as originally scheduled.

The Greensboro Grasshoppers will have two games tonight with the Lake County Captains out of Ohio. Game one is a completion game from earlier at Lake County(Cleveland Indians) and game one is set to go 8 innings. Game two is set for 7 innings.

Do you think they’ll get both games in tonight or will the rains come in wash the crops away?

If anyone has a score from the NWG-Mount Tabor game, call us at 275-9738(Jimmy Fulmer will take your call and score) and we wil get that score on the air for you during the Hoppers’ games…..

One of our Northwest Guilford readers had an interesting comment about a recent game where a runner was headed home from third and needed to slide at the plate and there was a bat laying in the way from the previous hitter who was at first and headed toward second. With the bat at the plate it developed a dangerous play that would effect the runner’s slide. Moving that bat is the responsibility of the of the on-deck batter and not that of the umpire.

The on-deck hitter controls a lot of things that are going on around the plate on a play such as this. He needs to make sure the bat at the plate used by the previous hitter is out of harm’s way and he needs to let the approaching runner know whether to stand up or get down and slide at home. Excellent point by the NWG commenter and you are always hearing from the coaches etc., “Get that bat out of the way”.

Will Logan Self start for the NWG Vikings tonight? It has been a week since his last outing, 5/2/08 at Grimsley. Will John Neese be there to throw out the first ceremonial pitch for the playoffs?

*****Most of the other playoff action gets rolling on Friday night at 7pm and then looking ahead, Round Two will be on Tuesday May 13, Round Three on Friday May 16 and Round Four on Tuesday May 20.*****
