Moore has done it again, this time he’s Rookie of the Year…..

This time it’s HUGE news for the kid that just last year was playing for the Grimsley Whirlies and used to be on all of the Greensboro Batting Center’s travel teams and he was in the Colt World Series a few years ago and used to play at the Pleasant Garden Recreation Center and he used to eat his post-game meals at T. Cooper’s Deli and his mom Sharon, his dad Kevan, his sister Megan, his grandmother Patsy, his grandfather Larry, and his old coach and mentor Alan Ashkinazy; they are very proud of Clint Moore and job he has done in his first year at West Point with the Army Black Knights. This has to be a great Mother’s Day weekend present for his mom and good to luck to Clint in this weekend’s Patriot League conference tournament.

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army head coach Joe Sottolano knew Clint Moore was a gifted ball player when the Black Knights’ field boss began recruiting the Black Knights’ rookie shortstop out of North Carolina two years ago. Now, the rest of the Patriot League is aware of that fact, as well.

Following a stellar debut season in which he’s ranked among conference leaders in several offensive categories, Moore has been selected Patriot League Rookie of the Year, it was announced by conference officials on Thursday.

Army’s offensive catalyst, Moore is batting .333 with 11 doubles, two triples, four home runs, 40 runs scored, 32 runs batted in and 86 total bases this season. He has posted a .486 slugging percentage and a .435 on-base percentage, while registering 14 stolen bases in 16 attempts and provided stout defense up the middle.

One of two Black Knights to start all 46 contests to date, Moore has served as a sparkplug atop the Black Knights’ batting order, excelling out of the leadoff spot. The native of Greensboro, N.C. (Grimsley H.S.), tops the team in runs scored, base hits (59), triples, total bases, walks (27) and stolen bases, ranks second in batting average, third in home runs and RBI, and fourth in doubles.

He ranks among Patriot League leaders in 10 statistical categories, including batting average (8th), base hits (6th), runs scored (2nd), runs batted in (8th), total bases (5th), on-base percentage (5th), slugging percentage (11th), walks (2nd), stolen bases (2nd) and home runs (11th).

In addition to leading the team with 20 multiple-hit games (including five three-hit efforts), Moore lists second among team leaders with 10 multi-RBI performances. He stands just three multiple-hit games shy of the single season school record established by teammate Cole White last season.

Moore hit .342 during 20 Patriot League contests, finishing conference play with two doubles, two triples, two home runs, 19 runs scored and 13 runs batted in. He stands just three base hits shy of the single season Academy record for freshmen and needs one total base and 11 runs scored to equal the school’s freshman standards in those categories as well.

“We’re really proud of Clint and all that he’s accomplished to date,” stated Army head coach Joe Sottolano. “It’s nice to see him rewarded for his efforts. He has been one of our most consistent performers this spring, and we’re happy to have him for three more years.

“Like all of our players, Clint is an outstanding young man who works extremely hard on and off the field.”

Moore becomes the third Army player in five years to capture Patriot League Rookie of the Year honors, following in the footsteps of Milan Dinga in 2004 and Cole White in 2005.
