It’s the end of an era…

When Southeast Guilford lost to Lake Norman last Friday night in HS baseball it ended and era for the SEG Falcons. Six of the best baseball players to ever set foot on the Falcons’ field saw their career’s come to an end.

It’s all over for Cam Cockman, Austin Moyer, Jeff Medley, Justin Venable, Eric Seders, and Pat Nisbet. Cockman is headed to UNC-Wilmington, Moyer and Medley to the University of South Carolina Upstate, Venable to East Carolina to play football and for Seders and Medley, I’m not sure what they will be doing. This team averaged over 20 wins a season for at least three years and possibly four. According to unverified records, this the winningest team in Southeast Guilford baseball history.

The only thing they didn’t win was the State Championship. SEG made it to the finals last year and now this season they get knocked out in the first round of the playoffs. Go figure that?

The same thing happened to the Grimsley girls basketball team. Great group of seniors will all five starters going to Division I schools. The Grimsley girls get the 4-A Championship game in 2007 and then get knocked out of the playoffs in round one of the regionals this year. Trumae Lucas, Jasmine Alston, Kristen Fields, Nicole Hargraves, and Amber Cook. All of those Grimsley girls have a good idea how the Southeast Guilford baseball players feel.

For the kids that lost it’s time to start thinking about college workouts and preparations and for the returning girls at Grimsley they’ll have a new coach next year in Hank Bullard. For the returning baseball players at Southeast Guilford they’ll have to take a young group and bond together.

Brian Webb, Trey Gilmore, Gareth Bigham, Tivon Clark, Trey Artis, Tanner Hodgin, Josh Tobias, Tiger Miller, Adam Kilpatrick, Jay Steele, and Colby King will have all work hard together to create a new Falcon tradition.

  1. This is the first time I’ve ever been on this site and came acroos this article on SE and I wanted to comment on it. Cam Cockman, Jeff Medley, Justin Venable, and Austin Moyer have over the last 10 years been some of the best players in guilford county. I enjoyed watching them as 8 years olds right up to now. Great players ………….congrats to each of them on there season and High School careers. But then if you played baseball in Pleasant Garden 10 years ago, it’s no surprise they are moving to the next level. They were all great players at 8 years old!! Good Luck to each of you as you move on…………I’m sure you will be a success. I know I enjoyed watching you play over the last 10 years.
