HS Baseball Playoffs tonight….

Round two action continues this evening and we only have five teams from Guilford County left in the hunt and we have one team from near-by Forsyth County just across the Guilford County line.

Grimsley, Page, Ragsdale, Southwest Guilford, and Northeast Guilford still have their sights set on a State Championship. The same can be said for our friends just across the border in Kernersville, the Eagles of East Forsyth. I haven’t heard any recent news on High Point Wesleyan and I’m not sure of their current post-season status.

Here’s what we have lined up for this evening:

Grimsley(18-6) at Huntersville Hopewell(22-4)
Page(7-14) at Audrey Kell(23-4)
Northeast Guilford(14-11) at South Granville(20-5)
Ragsdale(20-7) at Glenn(21-5)
Lake Norman(12-13) at Southwest Guilford(17-9)
Watauga(17-10) at East Forsyth(20-5)

*****If we have missed any teams or have incorrect numbers on records or locations, please let us know so we can make the needed changes. As far as starters go for tonight let’s speculate.

What about Jon Wilkinson for Grimlsey, Esterlin Paulino for Southwest Guilford, Kyle Brandenburg or David Coffey for Ragsdale(You have to really like Brandenburg’s chances after his last start vs. Southeast Guilford), Taylor Atkins for Northeast Guilford(Zack Moore got the last start at Harnett Central) and for Page? Page has the one ace in Zach Kornblum but how about the Pirates go with the freshman Jonathan Bethea and then come back with Charlie Wholestaff? Nick Jones, Kornblum and others. This is single elimination baseball. Here today and gone tomorrow. Win and move on or lose and go home. For East Forsyth, is it Ryan Dull’s time again? When is it not Ryan Dull’s turn? The kid has carried that EF team.

Best of luck to all the teams tonight. We will have our team at the Hoppers’ game but if you will call us at 275-9738 we will get your score and recognize your team on the air on AM950. Please call Jimmy Fulmer and give him the updates on your games. Last Friday we heard from Page, Grimsley, Southeast Guilford, and Ragsdale. Call us tonight at 275-9738 and we will get your game on the air.*****

  1. I believe Bethea from Page is a sophomore. However, I had heard that he is a really young sophomore. He has the potential to be one of the best to ever play in this area. Big left-handed stroke, great glove over at first, and he is already a big kid with the youth to get bigger/stronger. He has a brother that is around 6’8″-6’9″ that played basketball for Page in the late nineties, so he could easily end up around 6’4″-6’5″. Does anyone know if he has been picked up for the showcase circuit? The Pirates stole one on Friday and I would assume they throw the Kornblum until he can’t go anymore. According to those down at E. Burke, he threw a gem last friday. Good luck to them and my Whirlies tonight.
