Chad Wiley – NC A&T Football dies of heat stroke Tuesday

I caught the news first on WSJS in the car at lunch and later at the News & Record, when I returned home.

Wiley collapsed Tuesday during a supervised spring practice. He was immediately treated and transported to Moses Cone Hospital, where he later passed away from complications of heat illness.

Football as we have noted twice this week is a dangerous sport, even when properly supervised. There are so many factors involved in injuries and illnesses. Chad Wiley had started for two years for the Aggies and would have been ready for the practices. Tuesday was a little warmer than previous days.

Our thoughts go out to Chad’s family and to his extended family at NC A&T University.
