Power falls to Bulldogs, BIG game tonight at New Bridge Bank Park…

The Proehlific Power fell 8-3 at the hands of the College guys last night in Kernersville at Glenn High School. The Kernersville Bulldogs rapped out 10 hits and so the PP but the Bulldogs used their extra-base hits including Nick Johnson’s three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning to lock down the victory.

The Bullgdogs coached by Dale Ijames are part of the Summer Collegiate League and they use wooden bats in all of their games. The Bulldogs were coming off of a 4-4 tie with the Hi-Toms of the Coastal Plain League. Logan Self got the start on the hill for the Power and PP only trailed 3-0 until that five-run sixth by the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs used 7 pitchers and the PP went with Self, Zach Kornblum, and Esterlin Paulino.

The Power scored all three of their runs in the seventh inning and could have had more but Travis Woolen was nailed trying to turn a double into a triple at third. Aaron Jones was on base four times for the PP with a double, two singles and a walk. Woolen had two hits, and JB Brewer also had two hits for the Power.

John Neese out of GTCC was impressive at the plate for the Bulldogs with an RBI triple and a couple of walks and Nick Rogers from N.C. A&T saw time on the mound and at third base for the Bulldogs as did fellow Aggie teammate Lester Rivenbark behind the plate for the ‘Dogs. Joe John and Alex Starbuck out of Guilford College had three hits between them for Kernersville.

Tonight the Proehlific Power will be downtown to take on Ronnie Pugh’s Asheboro Legion team at New Bridge Bank Park. Michael Dimock will get the call for the PP on the mound and Asheboro should be fun to watch with Cam Cockman and Austin Moyer out of Southeast Guilford and Jake Ozment from Southern Guilford on the squad.

The game will get started at 7pm and I know of at least one scout from UNC-Wilmington that will be on hand to take in the action with Cockman from SEG and Aaron Jones from Gospel Light/Grimsley both future UNC-W Seahawks, set to on the field and very active in this contest.

Come on out and support the team as they try and raise money for their upcoming road-trip tournament at the College World Series site in Omaha, Nebraska.

  1. It was great being able to see the ex Patriots playing for the Bulldogs last night. The Bulldogs have an excellent team and under Coach Ijames I am sure they will get better. Congratulations to the Bulldogs. The Power gained valuable experience last nigh facing the calibre pitching they faced. Also they got to experience wood bats for the first time this year. The Powere got 11 hits but came up short to a good Bulldog team. Good luck the rest of the year and hope you guys are very successful.

  2. I believe Steven Davis and maybe Tyler McSwain (both from Post45) are also headed to UNC-W this fall.
