Former Pack Standout has Drive to Succeed

Even though football season is still a couple of months away, its never too early to talk a little pigskin. FoxSports.com’s Alex Marvez wrote an interesting article yesterday talking about former NC State and current Houston Texan’s player Mario Williams.

Williams was the number one pick in the 2006 NFL Draft and at the time, many panned the move by Houston, who passed on the more celebrated Vince Young and Reggie Bush. After a slow start in his rookie season, it looked as if the Texans had made a mistake and many of the talking heads began a chorus of “I told you so”.

In 2007, things all changed for Williams. While Young and Bush sputtered, Williams came on like a man on a mission. After putting up big numbers (14 sacks, 2nd in the AFC), the roles are now reversed heading into 2008. Williams told Marvez, “It’s just crazy in the way it flipped. You’re dog crap one minute and then the next minute, ‘Wow, he’s doing great!’ It’s the flip-side for the other guys.”
