The AP is reporting that UNC basketball player Ty Lawson has been charged with driving while impaired after a traffic stop in downtown Chapel Hill.
Lawson was stopped early Friday morning because of the loud music coming from the car and officers say he smelled of alcohol. A field sobriety test led the officer to file charges.
Officers said Lawson also was charged with violating the city’s noise ordinance and driving with a suspended or revoked license. Lawson was taken into custody and later released on a written promise to appear in court on July 8.
Lawson was one of three North Carolina players who has declared for the 2008 NBA draft.
