Chris Benoit:He’s been gone a year now…

Christopher Michael Benoit:(May 21, 1967 – June 24, 2007) was a Canadian professional wrestler who wrestled for Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), World Championship Wrestling (WCW), and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).

Benoit ascended to the top of his profession, becoming the World Heavyweight Champion in WCW and WWE, in turn becoming one of few men to hold both companies’ incarnations of the Big Gold Belt. Benoit was generally regarded as one of the most popular and respected competitors in professional wrestling.

Chris, his wife Nancy, and their 7-year-old son Daniel were found dead in their Fayetteville, Georgia home on June 25, 2007. Authorities confirmed that Benoit killed his wife and son, and subsequently hanged himself.

WWE officials had alerted police after Benoit missed several live appearances, including Vengeance: Night of Champions on June 24, 2007. Benoit, an ECW performer, was scheduled to win the ECW World Championship at the event.

+++++What Benoit did was insane, but I still respected him as a wrestler and appreciated his aggressive, hard-working nature in the ring. He has been missed and will continue to be missed and when you look at the product today you can see the void that Benoit and others like Eddie Guerrero have left on this business. I can’t believe other sites aren’t talking about this major story that happened one year ago this past weekend. This may be the biggest story, albeit tragic, in the history of professional wrestling.+++++

  1. I am going to venture a guess that most sites, including the good folks over at the WWE site, probably want to forget about Benoit and his legacy. I agree that there does seem to be a void in the wrestling game as of late. The big shake up with Triple H moving to Friday nights might do the trick but it is doubtful. As long as Vince keeps giving away money during Raw (and Cecil Carr keeps paying for the Chinese food while we watch at LDI), I will continue to be a loyal viewer on Monday nights! FYI – Don bought this past Monday. Thx – Don.

  2. Benoit was a very good wrestler and I do miss him in the ring. His life outside the ring must have been very tough. It would have beegood to know that Benoit got some help. Someone had to have known he needed help. It may have changed things and saved three lives. By the way Doug this week it will be Happy Meals. Im loving it!! See you all Mon. LOL!!
