Hoppers Drop Series-Finale, 9-8…..

Game Starts Late After Two Hour Delay

GREENSBORO – After a two hour rain delay pushed back the start of Sunday’s series finale, Greensboro gave those that stuck around a valiant effort, but eventually lost 9-8.

After trailing at one point 7-2, the Hoppers battled back to even the game at seven before Tyler Henson hit the eventual game-winning home run for Delmarva in the top of the eighth inning off of Steven Cishek.

Greensboro made a push in the home-half of the eight, but only managed to put one run on the board and went in order in the ninth to drop the series to the Shorebirds.

Emilio Ontiveros led the way with two hits for Greensboro, Justin Jacobs had a team-high, two runs batted in.

The Hoppers’ pitching staff gave up three home runs on the night. Two came off of starter Jay Voss who allowed seven runs on seven hits in just 2 1/3 innings of work.

Eric Basurto and Kevin Gunter combined to shut down the Shorebirds over the next four innings, but Cishek allowed two runs, both off of Henson’s home run, to drop to 1-3 on the season.

Greensboro will next be in action as the Hoppers hit the road for four games in Rome, Ga., and another four in Columbus, Ga., before returning home on Wednesday, July 16.
