18-Year-Old Paces South Atlantic League with 10 June Home Runs

Greensboro, N.C. – The June numbers outfielder Mike Stanton posted with the Greensboro Grasshoppers continue to receive accolades as the 2007 second-round draft pick of the Florida Marlins was named the organization’s player of the month, team officials announced Tuesday.

In 27 games, Stanton batted .300, scoring 21 runs on 33 hits, including seven doubles, one triple and 10 home runs. He finished the month with a .355 on-base percentage, a .655 slugging percentage, collected 22 RBI and stole three bases in four attempts. Stanton currently leads the South Atlantic League with 21 home runs this season.

His 10 home runs were tops in the Sally League as were his 72 total bases. Stanton was the lone Hopper to see action in all 27 June contests and led his team in 11 different offensive statistical categories.

For the season, Stanton’s 21 home runs are second in the organization behind Albuquerque’s Dallas McPhearson and sixth in all of Minor League Baseball; McPhearson leads the Minors with his 31 home runs.

The Marlins’ organization also named former Greensboro pitcher Graham Taylor as their pitcher of the month. Taylor went 3-0 in four starts for the Hammerheads, with a 1.35 ERA. Over 26 2/3 innings pitched, he allowed 18 hits, four runs, and walked six while striking out 26. Taylor held opposing hitters to a .188 batting average. He currently ranks among the Florida State League leaders in wins (T-1, 8), strikeouts (T-3, 82) and innings pitched (2, 102.1).
