Update on HS/College football…

I spoke with Bob Via when I was out at Northeast Guilford for the NEG vs. SEG vs. WG, 7 on 7 scrimmages, on Thursday afternoon. Bob said his son Michael, a former lineman at Page and NEG, is already up at Virginia Tech and that Michael Via is in summer school getting a jump start on his college classes. Bob said Tech will probably red-shirt Michael this season and try to get his weight up to 290 pounds, right now Michael ONLY weighs in at 265.

The same can be said for former Southeast Guilford defensive back Justin Venable who left for East Carolina back on June 25. He’s enrolled in Summer School and hopes to get his weight up to 210 from around 195 pounds after a potential red-shirt campaign.

Todd Shuping the former football coach at Grimsley and the former golf coach at Trinity will be the first-ever football coach at the brand new Providence Grove High School in Randolph County which will open it’s doors for the first time this fall and they will field a football team this fall of 2008.

  1. We’ll have some talk coming up next week with the advent of the East-West All-Star game and then the practices all begin the following week on July 31…..
