Snakes Alive!

I came across a copperhead snake slithering across the road this morning while on the July jog/run and that proves we aren’t the only snakes here in town at GREENSBOROSports.com.

The Greensboro Grasshoppers pulled out a 10-9 win last night at New Bridge Bank Park with back-to-back-to-back home runs in the 7th by Ryan Curry, Tom Hickman, and Torre Langley. The East-West All-Star games continue tonight at UNCG with boys and girls soccer and Big Jim Modlin will be there with the coverage.

The Proehlific Power are up in Virginia Beach, Virginia this week for the Palomino baseball tournament and we hope to have reports and results for you from there this week.

The Greensboro White Colt baseball team begins play in their tournament on Wednesday at 8pm at Stoner-White Stadium in Jaycee Park. The tournament officially gets under way at 4pm on Wednesday.

We have the youth football registration info up for you on the site and we also noted that Tom Shalley will retire from the Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department this Thursday at the close of the business day. Tom Shalley has served our city well and we will be looking for a tribute/story on Tom coming in from Doug Cockman in the next couple of days.

The big East-West football game will be tomorrow night at Jamieson Stadium with fireworks at halftime. This will be the kickoff to the upcoming football season. The ACC is having their Operation ACC Football this week down in Greensboro, Georgia and I was able to catch Adam Gold on 850 the Buzz the other morning with his LIVE update and he said Daniel Evans was still the man(QB) at N.C. State and that Clemson had the cream of the crop in the ACC. Donald Moore Jr., son of the Grasshoppers’ president Donald Moore Sr., is down in Greensboro representing the local Greensboro, NC, ACC office.

Why are the NFL teams in camp so soon? The Washington Redskins were the first to get started, arriving Saturday, and they’ve already experienced and injury that required a trade to shore them up at defensive end.(Jason Taylor from Miami) Why start so soon? It’s still over six weeks till the beginning of the regular season!!!!! Are they going to kill each other before they play their first official game?
