Greensboro White Colt team wins one, loses one….

Our local Greensboro White baseball team won one game and they lost another on Friday at Stoner-White Stadium in Jaycee Park.

The GBW team coached by Larry Farrer battled throughout the tourney and they made it to the championship round but they just could not get over the CBC hump losing to the team out of Virginia for the second time in the past two days.

In game one on Friday the Greensboro White team defeated Greatneck, Virginia 7-4 with a very strong effort by GBW starting pitcher Scott Wells. The Greensboro lineup on Friday versus Greatneck was composed of Daurius Mims, Matt Rutledge, Zack Hodges, Garrett Lewis, Scott Wells, Johnathan Wells, Dusty Long, Steven Plante, and Caleb Collins.

The game line went 1-0 GBW after two innings, 3-1 GBW after three, 3-2 GBW after four, 7-3 GBW after five and 7-4 GBW after six, and that’s how it ended after 7 complete innings, 7-4, Greensboro White over Greatneck, Virginia. Greatneck left the bases loaded in the sixth as GBW was able to snuff out a huge GNV rally.

Greensboro White saw their season come to an end in game number two last night as they fell to Chesterfield County Virginia 5-3. The Chesterfield Ball Club will now return to Greensboro next Wednesday to begin play in the Colt East Zone tournament that will send it’s winner to the Colt Baseball World Series in Lafayette, Indiana.

The final line on game two, which turned out to be the Colt Region for the East Zone championship, went like this. No score after one inning, CBC went up 3-2 after two, the game was tied at 3-3 after three innings, CBC moved back in front 4-3 after four, CBC got on the board again in the fifth to go up 5-3 and that was the final, the Chesterfield Ball Club out of Chesterfield County Virginia, 5 and Greensboro White 3.

Again, the CBC will be back in town next week with the East Zone tourney getting started on Wednesday and Alan Ashkinazy’s Greensboro Green team will be in the same tournament, battling for the right to go to Indiana.

Greensboro Colt Baseball announced their George Warner Sportmanship awards this week in honor of Mr. Warner who served on the local Colt baseball board of directors for many years. The two winners were Mike Whited of Ragsdale and Jamal Poe of High Point Andrews.
