Captains’ Home Run Hurts Hoppers in 4-3 loss

Brian Schultz Paces Struggling Offense with 2-for-3 Performance

Eastlake, Ohio – Greensboro erased a one-run deficit to garner the lead in the fourth inning. Lake County responded by erasing its own two-run deficit on a two-run home run by Todd Martin in the sixth inning before tacking on the game-winner in the eighth to hand the Hoppers their second straight loss of the series, 4-3.

Trailing by one, the Hoppers scored twice in the fourth inning and again in the fifth to take a two-run lead, but starter Brett Durand watched his winning hopes fly over the right field wall with one out in the sixth inning on Martin’s second home run of the season for Lake County. Martin was the last batter Durand faced; he left the game after 5 1/3 innings of work in which he surrendered three runs on five hits and struck out a handful of Captains.

Josh Judy came in to replace Lake County starter Ryan Miller in the sixth inning. In three innings of work, Judy allowed just two runs and struck out five Hoppers to pick up his tenth win of the season.

The loss was handed to Greensboro’s Peter Andrelczyk after he gave up one run on one hit; he also walked a batter.

Greensboro and Lake County wrap up their series Friday at 7:05 p.m. before the Hoppers return home Saturday to open an eight-game homestand.
