Greensboro Green one win away from the East Zone Gold…..

The Greensboro Green Colt baseball team grabbed another vitory this afternoon and now they are just one win away from goinig to the Colt World Series in Lafayette, Indiana.

Greensboro Green topped Butler Township Pennsylvania 8-3 on the way to the championship game on Saturday morning at 11am at War Memorial Stadium. The Greensboro Green team is now 3-0 in the tournament and they would have to lose twice on Saturday to be knocked out of World Series contention.

Greensboro Green was able to win today’s game with 8 runs on seven hits with no errors and nine men left on base. Butler Township out of Pennsylvania scored three runs on seven hits with two errors and six men left on base.

DJ Russ got the start for Greensboro and he earned the win and then Bradley Burchette and Steven Mekita came on to take care of the rest of the day on the hill for Greensboro Green. Tivon Clark started out the day 2-2 with a walk at the plate to spearhead the GBG offense.

For the game it went GBG 2-0 after one inning, GBG up 4-0 after two innings, GBG in front 5-2 after three innings, BTP cut the lead to 5-3 at the end of five and it stayed that way until the top of the 7th when GBG pushed across three huge insurance runs and they stood up as GBG went on to close out BTP, 8-3.

Greesnboro Green goes for the Championship of the Colt Baseball East Zone tournament on Saturday at 11am and with it the right to send a Greensboro team back to Lafayette, Indiana for the World Series.

The Lou Gehrig team from Hamilton, New Jersey defeated Rockingham County 6-1 earlier this afternoon to stay alive in the tournament and RC was eliminated from the competition. Two more games on Friday at 6 and 8pm in the double elimination tournament.

  1. Clark had a good day,but Clemons had 2 rbi’s in the first inning and scored 2 runs to also lead the offense today.McKinney,Sutphin and Carter also hit the ball very well. This team looks very good and has a shot to win it all. Good luck guys.

  2. I know lol, Clemons had a great game with a double and a single and was responsible for half the runs for the green team and he gets no mention from the press.
