R&B Aggies at the Myrtle Beach Summer Nationals…

The Greensboro-based R&B Aggies 16 and Under baseball team made their way down to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina last week for the Myrtle Beach Beach Summer Nationals by Triple Crown. There were 172 teams there for the entire tournament and in the 16 and Under bracket 28 teams from all over the United States were represented.

Our R&B Aggies got off to a slow start but they bounced back to win four straight games and they claimed the Silver Bracket with their 6-4 win in the final game. Brandon Burkes’ home run paced the Aggies and Ray Crawford came through with two hits in four plate appearances, while Tevin Neal went 2-3 at the plate and Lay Lay Brown ended up going 1-2, he walked twice and scored two runs.

The winning pitcher in the Silver Bracket Championship game was Jibril Shabazz. For the tournament, Shabazz was 2-0 while Tevin Neal went 1-1 with a save to his credit. Eric Kimber was also 1-1 with a save for the Aggies’ pitching staff.

In the overall tournament numbers, Matt Hawkins from Bartlett Yancey was 10-21 at the plate with 2HR’s, Lay Lay Brown hit for an .381 average with 7 runs scored and one home run, while Ray Crawford had an average of .381 and Corey Willamson hit .375.

The tournament game-by-game run down for the R&B Aggies was:
Game #1) 11-1(Loss)
Game #2) 6-5(Loss)
Game #3 6-4(Loss)
Game #4 5-4(Win)
Game #5 5-3(Win)
Game #6 3-1(Win)
Game #7 6-4(Win)

The R&B Aggies are coached by Ray Crawford Sr. with assistant coaches Tavis Neal and Eric Kimber.

It really does the soul good to see the work being done to get all these kids playing baseball. The efforts of Ray Crawford Sr., Tavis Neal, Eric Kimber, Derrick Johnson, JB Baynes, Reggie Tatum, and Larry Farrer should not go unnoticed.
