Power surge in Myrtle Beach at WFC Softball World Series

The Triad Power 12u team is one game away from the WFC World Series Championship game. The Power defeated the top seeded Sandhill Storm from Columbia, SC on Friday night.

The fourth seeded Power allowed the Storm to take a one run lead in the first inning. A couple walks and base hit set up the score. The Storm garnered another run in the top of the fourth when the Power gave up a base hit, a walk and an error. In the bottom of the fourth Sam Stilling leads off with a double. Kara Shutt grounds out to second and Stilling advances to third. Hayley Rumley draws a walk and then steals second. Brianna Webb pops out to the shortstop. Two outs runners on second and third and Cayla Cecil smashes a triple to left field and scores two. Ashley Carter then grounds out to first for the third out.

The official time expires in the fifth while the visiting Storm is at bat. The Power holds the Storm and gets one last chance to win the game. Morgan Coleman grounds out to the shortstop for the first out. Sam Stilling drops a hit over second base and Kara Shutt hits one between short and third. Hayley Rumley drops a bunt with runners on first and second. The Storm catcher throws out Rumley at first. The first baseman tries to get Stilling at third when she makes a wide turn. The third baseman mishandles the throw and it gets by her, Stilling takes off for home and beats the throw to win the game 3-2. Cayla Cecil pitched the entire game and had a key hit to advance the Power. The Power will play the Carolina Hurricanes at 11:00 am. Saturday. If they win they play the championship at 2:00 pm. A loss will put them playing the winner of the loser bracket at 12:30 pm. We are guaranteed a third place finish thus far.
