Guilford College Men’s Soccer Final – Oglethorpe 4, Guilford 1

Atlanta, Ga. (8-29-08) – Scott Devault scored a goa and had two assists in Oglethorpe’s 4-1 win over Guilford Friday afternoon in the opening round of the Sonny Carter Invitational. Devault set up Bryan Burnick’s tally 2:38 into the match for an early 1-0 lead. He also assisted Danner Marsden’s tally at the 27:23 mark that opened a 3-0 Stormy Petrels’ edge that stood at halftime.

After Kereith Pinnock (Carver, Mass./Carver) scored in the opening minutes of the second half to make it a 3-1 game, Devault finished off the scoring just over 10 minutes later.

Oglethorpe outshot the Quakers, 21-5. Guilford sophomore Patrick Childs made 10 saves in goal, while the Petrels’ Michael Hadjisimos had two saves.

The Quakers play tournament host Emory University Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
