Guilford Volleyball Splits on Opening Day of Eastern Mennonite Invitational

Harrisonburg, Va. (8-29-08) – Guilford’s volleyball team split its season-opening matches at the Eastern Mennonite Invitational Friday. The Quakers fell to the University of Mary Washington, 25-13, 25-18, 25-12 in Friday’s first game, but bounced back with a 25-16, 25-23, 25-21 win over Mary Baldwin College Friday night.

In the day’s first match, Anna Miller paced Guilford with six kills and six digs. Taylor Phillips contributed 12 assists in the loss and Stephanie Blankenship had three kills.

In the nightcap, Blankenship led the way with nine kills and five blocks. Miller added five putaways, five service aces and six block assists. Phillips had 16 assists and Courtney Kozar chipped in four kills and two service aces.

Guilford plays Frostburg Saturday at noon in its final pool-play match. The Quakers will play again Saturday afternoon at an undetermined time against one of the four teams in the opposite pool.
