Guilford College Men’s Soccer Final – #13 Emory 8, Guilford 0

Atlanta, Ga. (8-30-08) – Patrick Carver scored three times in the first 31 minutes as host Emory University cruised to an 8-0 victory over visiting Guilford College Saturday. The contest marked the third of four games in the Sonny Carter Invitational. Emory (2-0) is ranked 13th in the preseason NSCAA Division III national rankings.

Ben Schlang added two goals and an assist for the Eagles, who led 6-0 at halftime. Joey Howie had a goal and an assist. Christopher Howie contributed three assists. Jonathan Laycock and Greg Irons combined to make one save for the shutout.

Guilford (0-2) was outshot, 24-2. Freshman Jonathan Shine made three of the team’s four saves in the game.

The Quakers visit Methodist University Saturday (9/6) in a 4:00 p.m. nonconference match.
